I finally – finally! – finished the May page in my calendar journal. I’m overall pleased with it…

I started the June page – so far I painted it pink. And it’s going to have black designs. Other than that I have no idea what I’m doing. I chose green for May because my son was born in May, and the birthstone is emerald. My daughter was born in June, but the birthstone is pearl. I’m not doing a pearl page. So I chose pink instead. Funny how I never cared much for pink before Lily was born. Now I love it!

In non-arts & crafts related things, I finished reading Emma, by Jane Austen. I adore Emma! I loved this book – I hated to put it down. One thing that I particularly loved about Emma was her honesty in looking at herself and the mistakes she made. She was quick to acknowledge when she was at fault, and determined to change her ways.

I started reading Daniel Deronda by George Eliot. I haven’t read any George Eliot for a few years, and I’ve never read Daniel Deronda. I like it very much so far. I like Gwendolen a lot – I admire her ambition to be something more than the status quo, even if she doesn’t necessarily have the means to do so. Or even know what it is that she wants to be, other than fabulous!

And Project Runway…I was disappointed that Wendy and Andre left so early. I remember loving Wendy’s designs from the first season, and Andre is such a character. oh well. I’ve still got my Kayne and Josh!

Thanks for stopping by!

Here is my May calendar journal page so far. Not much done yet, just the background…

I squeezed three different colors of green on to the paper, and then used a brayer to spread them over the entire page. Lesson learned – you don’t need a lot of paint for this technique! I put on way too much. I had to use paper towels to take off some of the excess. There is a lot of texture, however!

While the paint was drying I started applying black glitter to another project. I decided, hey, why not throw some on the paint? So I did. It’s very sparkly! But hard to see in the photo.

I had decided to do May in green, because my son’s birthday is in May and the birthstone is emerald. I wanted the page to be elegant. At least I got the green part down. Elegant it is not. I do like it though.

I am going to paint the dragonfly and put some black glitter on it. That will be the touch of elegance!

I finally finished the April page in my calendar journal. Here it is…

For the background I used Distress Stains in blues, and rubber-stamping with white acrylic paint. It’s hard to see the designs of the rubberstamps; maybe I needed to put more paint on them? I tried outlining the designs with white pencil but it didn’t add much.

The journaling squares are paper from the The Rockstar stack by DCWV; I splattered it with the white paint to add interest and to help blend it with the background.

Off to my May page!

Have a great day!
