There are some other pretty cool things in this issue, but my mom borrowed my copy and of course I can’t remember what other articles I liked.

Check it out if you have the chance. Thanks for stopping by!

It feels like it’s been forever since I posted…I don’t think I’ve ever gone this long. Things have been a bit crazy in April – I have a new position at work which requires some after-hours work just to keep up with everything. I’ve hardly done anything creative. I really want to get back on track with my artistic goals.

Some good news…my recycled magazine page bows will be published in an upcoming issue of Greencraft magazine! I was very happy to receive that news…now I just need to write the article.

I mailed my bows – yay! I feel good about them. I hope the editors do too!

However I received my encouragement cards in the mail yesterday – they were declined. I was disappointed. I thought they were really good. oh well.

I’ve had a tray of half-finished jewelry projects sitting on my work table for a while. And by a while I mean at least a year. I was tired of looking at it. All those projects mocking me! So I went through them last Saturday and decided what I really wanted to finish. I decided to rework a couple projects because I don’t feel inspired by them anymore. But now I have a reduced pile of projects, and they are projects that I am excited to work on.

I finished my “vintage glam bows”. From pages ripped out of magazines to pretty little bows ready to top a handmade gift. I’m so glad I’m done! Now my least favorite part…typing up instructions, packaging, and mailing. These are going to Stampington, in hopes the editors will like them enough to publish them. I hope they like my bows…I know I do! And they’re just so pretty!

Here are some photos, showing the gesso’d & stamped magazine page strips as well as the finished product…

It’s been months since I’ve created anything. I find when I don’t create for a while, I have trouble getting motivated to do it again. I’ve been working a lot and have been more tired than usual too, which does not help get the creative juices flowing. But I managed to finally 1-find time and 2-rouse myself to do something…anything!

I picked up where I left off with my magazine-page bows. These are so cute, and easy to make. I ripped out some magazine pages and painted each side with a gesso wash. Then I stamped on top with a variety of rubber stamps. The stamps are the clear cling-type; I have a large acrylic block and I stick as many stamps as I can to it. That way the stamping looks random-ish but doesn’t take as long as individually stamping each stamp. I used Staz-On ink, which is a new product for me, and I have to say I am becoming a big fan. Definitely need to get more colors of Staz On!

I’ve made these before, but I did not do anything additional to the magazine pages. This time I decided to step it up, and make some vintage glam bows. With sparkle of course! Courtesy of my beloved Glimmer Mist.

Here is a magazine page that is ready to cut into strips.

As I mentioned previously I’ve been so busy with Christmas preparations that I haven’t had much time for creating. But…somehow I always manage to fit in at least a little tiny bit. I just can’t go for very long without indulging my creative urges.

So I’ve been making bows from old magazines. I have probably well over 100 magazines – almost every issue of Bead & Button, plus all of my Stampington magazines. I’ve realized that I simply can’t keep them all. One idea I found to use up old magazines is creating bows. It’s so easy! The most tedious part is cutting all the strips of paper. But once that’s done, you can make a bow in just a few minutes.

I use four different lengths of paper, and a brad to hold it together.

ooh la la

Isn’t it cute? So far I’ve made three. Not very many, but it’s a start.

If you want to make your own, here’s how:

I use strips in four different sizes – 3&7/8″, 3&1/2″, 2&7/8″, and 2&1/4″, approximately 3/4″ wide. Once I have those cut out, I gently bend each strip in half and use a 1/8″ hole punch to make a hole close to the ends. When that is done, take a brad (you’ll need a larger size to fit all the paper strips on) and bend each strip in half and insert the brad through the hole. Start with the smallest size. I string 6 to 10 strips of paper, depending on the length of the paper (I string 6 of the smallest size and 8 to 10 of the largest). When you are satisfied with your bow, fold over the prongs of the brad and voila! A unique and pretty bow.

Have a lovely day!
