Continuing with the tradition I started on my 40th birthday, I bought myself a birthday gift. Jewelry, of course. And continuing with tradition I chose to support an artist on Etsy. When I saw this beautiful necklace by Danita, featuring her drawing of Marie Antoinette, I knew I had to have it. I am very familiar with Danita’s work, since she is a regular in the Stampington magazines I obsess over. Her lovely figures are simple, yet alluring and mysterious. And the eyes! Amazing.

I just adore my new necklace!

Thanks for stopping by!

Last Wednesday I celebrated my 42nd birthday. I don’t feel 42, although I don’t know what 42 should feel like. I guess it feels like this! I took the day off from work and enjoyed a quiet, peaceful day at home. I ate lots of good food and worked on a jewelry project. It was delightful!

Here are some photos I took to record my day. Food seems to be the common theme…I love food!

This post is rather late, seeing that my birthday was over a month ago, and we’re on the verge of spring, but I really wanted to share this necklace, so…

Last year when I turned 40 I decided to buy myself a gift (or gifts) and I ended up buying a few pieces of jewelry from different artists on Etsy.

I thought this would be a good tradition to continue, so this year for my 41st birthday I bought this necklace from Wearable Art by Jude

a tree in winter

I had contemplated buying this last year but didn’t. So I decided to get it this year. I really love it!

me in the winter

This necklace reminds me of a teaching by Joyce Meyer. She said there are times in your life when it seems like nothing is happening. You’re not getting anywhere, things are not working, and you’re ready to give up. Like a tree in winter, you feel bare and dull, empty and lifeless. But don’t be deceived! Inside, there is new life preparing to burst forth at just the right time.

So just hang in there!

happy birthday!

So another year has gone by; and here I am another year older. When I turned 40 last year, I had high hopes. They didn’t quite pan out. But 41 could be the best year ever!

Yesterday I watched the “Birthday” episode of AbFab. I think I will watch that every year for my birthday. I totally love when Edina’s mom says “and when will you be 50 dear?” She knows just how to get to the heart of the matter. And really, is 40 such a big deal? Or 41. 50, on the other hand….

I made the above little birthday collage; everything is from the Fairy Tea Party collection by Ellie Lash, from scrapbookgraphics.com.

So how does 2011 stack up? Not as wonderful as I was expecting, but I keep high hopes, and I am willing to give 2012 everything I’ve got.

Here were my favorite occasions:

1. Celebrating my 40th birthday with my family at one of my favorite restaurants, Fountainside.
2. My niece Gwen’s 5th birthday party.
3. Our anniversary dinner at Augusto’s – delicious!
4. My son Julian’s 20th birthday dinner at another favorite restaurant, Maggio’s.
5. Camping at Black Moshannon with my dad’s and stepmother’s families.
6. My daughter Lily’s 5th birthday party at Bounce U.
7. Lily’s graduation from pre-school.
8. My cousin Carla’s wedding (to husband Curt).
9. Going to Dutch Wonderland with our brother-in-law Ed and niece Gwen.
10. Staying at my dad and stepmom’s cabin in Dushore, and checking out the Dushore Days festivities.
11. Attending the Bezel Boot Camp class, taught by Kim St Jean, at Bead Fest.
12. Our mini vacation in Ocean City MD.
13. Lily starting kindergarten.
14. Thanksgiving – one of my favorite holidays.
15. Seeing Tori at the Academy of Music.
16. Winning the Cornerstone award at work.
17. My brother-in-law Darren’s cd release party, and the dinner that I treated Marc to at Chifa beforehand, to celebrate his birthday.
18. Christmas – my favorite holiday.
19. Celebrating my nephew Owen’s first birthday.

And so here we are. It would seem that 2011 was pretty good then. And 2012? I am still working on putting together my goals, but I expect great things to happen, for all of my family and myself. I can’t wait to see what the days hold!

Wishing you a very happy New Year!

happy birthday lily!

My sweet little girl is 5 today.

my angel

she’s a rose
in a lily’s cloak
she can hide her charms
she runs like the fire does
just picking up daisies
comes in for a landing
a pure flash of lightening
past alice-blue blossoms
who follow her laughter
and then she’ll surprise you
arms filled with lavender
it is her time
yes my angel
it is your time
so you just run
with ribbons undone.

new jewelry
I received one of the necklaces that I bought for my birthday.

This is Tarnished Past

by talula

by talula

My lovely new necklace is made from an antique rhinestone shoe clip and an antique skeleton key, connected with antiqued brass chain, with a little bit of antique lace tied on one side. I just love it!

I got it from Talula on Etsy – I really love her jewelry. She’s got many other pieces that I wouldn’t mind having!

And the presentation was just gorgeous!

it's all in the presentation

My necklace arrived in this beautifully decorated box. Inside was shredded music paper, and the necklace chain was wrapped around an old miniature playing card. Just darling! I truly felt like I was opening a gift.

The name of this necklace drew my attention during my initial search for birthday jewelry. Tarnished Past – this speaks to me of all the mistakes I’ve made in my life (and there are so many!) – I do feel as if I have a tarnished past. But the key represents redemption – it unlocks the door to a new life. And there is hope!
